Seasonal Camp Counselor

Job Description

Camp Counselors provide direct supervision of campers at a co-ed day camp.   Madison Area YMCA Camp will be located at Drew University.


  1. Provide positive supervision of  participants.
  2. Facilitate a safe and fun program environment.
  3. Respond to emergencies appropriately.
  4. Follow schedules and be on time.
  5. Provide guidance and discipline to  participants.
  6. Keep program equipment clean and organized.
  7. Assist the Camp Coordinator in creating and implementing impromptu activities.
  8. Lead games and activities for  participants, including specialized activities in Art, Science and Sports.



  1. Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent and one season of experience working with youth in a camp setting. YMCA experience preferred.
  2. Must be 17 years or older.
  3. Attend 40 hours of training as outlined in training schedule and obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certifications which will be provided through the Madison Area YMCA.
  4. Must be available beginning June 17, 2019.
  5. Counselors can take up to one week (5 days) of unpaid vacation days and this request must be approved in writing by director prior to the start of camp.
  6. Maintain certifications or become certified in CPR, First Aid and AED, and Lifeguarding, will train.
  7. Willingness to participate in high adventure activities.
